On Tuesday, June 22nd, researchers Fabián Soto, Felipe Navarro and Daniel Baeza were lecturers at the University of Atacama’s first Geostatistics workshop, which was organized by the ALGES in collaboration with the university’s Department of Mine Engineering and Direction of Innovation, Development and Transfer. The event took place in the UA’s facilities in the city of Copiapó.
Before an audience of students and teachers of the Mine Engineering, Geology and Informatics programs, the representatives from the ALGES presented the lab’s main developments, achievements and research lines.
The meeting was useful not only to publicize the ALGES’s work, but also to strengthen bonds with the University of Atacama, which showed interest in begin a line of research in Geostatistics and to initiate joint research with the ALGES being via specific development projects or via thesis works. Besides, the university is in the process of creating its own Geostatistics laboratory and expressed interest in using the software created by the ALGES through an academic license and in joint courses.
The workshop had also presentations from companies like Pucobre, which informed about their experiences, problems and challenges with the use of Geostatistics in their production work.
