On Monday July 25th the workshop “Mining and Innovation” was held at the ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, event that had AMTC’s Executive Director, Dr. Javier Ruiz del Solar, and the AMTC’s Under Director, Dr. Willy Kracht, among its speakers.
The workshop gathered more than 100 from the public, private and academic sectors and addressed subjects such as innovation management in the mining industry, smart mining, challenges in productivity involving water and energy and new solutions to the tailings problem.
Dr. Ruiz del Solar joined the round table “Innovation in mining”, which was moderated by the Chairman of the Alta Ley National Mining Program, Mauro Valdés, and also joined by Cleve Lightfoot, global technology chief for BHP Billiton; Pamela Chávez, general manager of Aguamarina, and Andrés Pesce, sustainability manager for Fundación Chile. Dr. Kracht was moderator of the panel on smart mining, which was joined by Diederik Lugtigheid, Komatsu’s director of innovation; Orlando Jiménez, executive director of CSIRO Chile; Carlos Valencia, chief of technology and innovation of GHH Fahrzeuge; Pedro Gonzalez Carbonell, asset planning manager of BHP Billiton, and Javier García, vice-president of tracking, control and mining safety of Colombia’s National Mining Agency.
The workshop was organized by ECLAC and the German Cooperation–GIZ with support from the Ministry of Mining, CORFO, Transforma Minería and the Alta Ley National Mining Program.
