A cooperation agreement regarding teaching, research and funding was signed today between the AMTC and the Department of Mining Engineering (DIMIN), both organizations part of the University of Chile’s Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.
Javier Ruiz del Solar, AMTC’s Executive Director, and Xavier Emery, DIMIN’s Director, signed the document that formalizes the commitment in an event attended by prominent personalities of the mining sector, along with scholars, researchers and representatives from the industry.
This strategic alliance intends to develop interdisciplinary research projects, innovation activities, technology transfer and services offerings to initiatives associated to the mining industry. All of this is framed within the interest of both organizations in strenghten the University of Chile’s capacities for developing mining technology.
Under the terms of the agreement, DIMIN’s professors will be able to carry on research projects under the AMTC’s brand, so to boost the center’s mission of generating new technologies. In the other hand, DIMIN will make its infrastructure and laboratories available for the AMTC’s projects that require them.
Also, both institutions will work on development of advanced human capital through research projects that allow the development of thesis and final works of DIMIN’s grad students. The AMTC will allow its researchers to act as teachers in DIMIN’s academic programs and as part of thesis commissions.
Javier Ruiz del Solar explained the importance of this agreement: “The Department of Mining Engineering is a kay strategic partner, we have developed several a huge amount of projects and joint initiatives. In that context, this agreement will allow to keep deepening and strenghtening the AMTC-DIMIN synergic relation”. Dr. Ruiz del Solar also highlighted that DIMIN’s reputation as the best mining engineering school of Latin America will help the internationalization goals of the AMTC.
